Is anyone else having trouble getting Medicare to accept diagnoses for cpt 20610 large joint injection? They won't accept shoulder impingement. Any thoughts?

My first thought is to use a pain code. You are doing the injection for the pain caused by the impingement not to repair the impingement. Hope that makes sense/helps.

The provider needs to document if the pain is acute or chronic then code the appropriate 338 code first and the shoulder impingement second. Read the coding guidelines regarding pain management coding
