Is anyone ordering the 2013 icd-9 books? I am aware there is a code freeze and no new diagnoses are being added. I was under the impression that if I do not order a new book and use my 2012 ICD-9 I will be non Hippa compliant?? Any truth to this and where can I find a resource stating this?? Thanks!!
 
this is not true you have to have current code books to be compliant, the 2012 code book contains all current codes and is no different from the 2013, therefore it is a compliant book for HIPAA standards. ICD-9 CM will no longer be maintained unless it is in the best interest of the general public to update the codes next year. Therefore as far as we know right now you will never need to purchase another ICD-9 CM code book.
