If my surgeon does a menisectomy in medial AND lateral (29880) or medial OR lateral (29881 and does a chondroplasty in the patella compartment can I not bill a seperate 29877for the patella?
The 2012 codes for 29880 & 29881 say.. including debridement/shaving or articular cartilage (chondroplasty), same or DIFFERENT compartment(s)...

I know my surgeons are going to grill me on this one.

You statements are correct:
-Chondroplasty is no longer reportable in a separate compartment of the knee, not even with G0289, which is still part of the code set. So in the setting of 29881 or 29880, chondroplasty is not separately reportable (unless it is performed in the OTHER knee).
-Yes, your surgeons will most likely be upset, but everyone in the country is in the same boat on this.
