We had a patient come in the office to see one doctor re: vascular surgery and then saw another doctor in the practice for her yearly pap/pelvic. Both of the doctors are general surgeons. I know normally we cannot charge both visits if they are for the same problem but can we charge both e/m's due to the visit being two different cc? Thanks for any input.
 
Is either doctor about to perform surgery?

You mention that one visit was re vascular surgery ... is that surgeon scheduled to perform surgery soon? If so, THIS is a global visit (unless it is the decision for surgery, but it sound like this is a pre-op visit).

The yearly visit with the other physician could be coded.

I'm confused about both these physicians being "general surgeons" ... isn't one an OB/GYN and the other a CV surgeon?

Neither doctor is going to do surgery. The pap was just her yearly visit, and the vascular visit was to follow up on reports from a CT angiogram that was done due to pain from a stent that was placed years ago.

And yes, both surgeons are "general surgeons" but we have 2 docs that also dabble in and performs "female procedures" and another that also subspecializes in vascular stents.
