Surgeon A started, received an emerg call & had to call in Surg B to finish up the case. Both surg are in our group. Surg A did about 75% of case. Bill only Surg A???? HELP!
 
I think you may be right

I would have to see the op note(s) to be sure, but I think you may be on the right track.

We had a similar case a few months back, where Surgeon A began the procedure and Surgeon B finished ... We coded it to the surgeon who had done the majority of the case. Just as in your case, both surgeons are of the same specialty and in the same practice.

I've thought about this today and I would be interested in seeing the documentation.

I kind of wonder about the possiblity of billing the surgery under the primary provider and also under the 2nd one as an assistant. Since in order to qualify as a surgical assistant they have to be able to finish the procedure I am guessing that happens sometimes and would be correct to bill that way.
