Provider A saw the patient in the ER, ordered some labs - then was called away. Provider B stepped in and finished working with the patient, and signed the discharge note. Who gets to bill for the patient? If they both dictate notes, can I bill for both providers? If so, what modifier do I use?
Thanks for any help

In order to bill for the EM the provider has to personally document CC, HPI, PE, and DX ... so the provider that actually had face-to-face w/patient.

2 providers/ 1 ER patient

Provider B will be the one who will get the credit for this patient. Since Provider A was called away and Provider B took over care for this patient, as long as there is documentation from Provider B that he took over care or has some documentation that he did indeed care for this patient and he signed off on this patient's chart, he will get the credit for seeing the patient. The last Physician to see the patient gets the credit, no matter if Provider A documented on the patient's chart, or even signed off on the chart. Provider B rendered the rest of the care, documented something to the fact that he did care for the patient, discharged the patient, and signed off on the chart. I hope this clarifed what you were asking for.
