Hello,

In Codify there is a tip under 19316 that states "although an inverted T incision is sometimes used in performing a mastopexy, a mastopexy is not the same as a mastectomy, and the two procedures should not be reported together." Does anyone know which mastectomy codes it's referring to since none of the mastectomy codes bundle with 19316? We were thinking it was referring to any of the mastectomy codes (19300 - 19307), but since none of them technically bundle when we run it through the edit checker we weren't sure. Any info anyone has is greatly appreciated!

Hi This Tip is giving heads up info regarding mastectomy (Removal of breast tissue) vs Mastopexy (Repair of Breast tissue). In simple terms when removal is performed its the part of the surgery that repair should be performed so both are inclusive. same like polypectomy with control of bleeding at polypectomy site. Hope this answers to your question. Happy coding

If healthy tissue is removed then mastectomy should not be coded with mastopexy as removal of healthy breast tissue is included in the mastopexy as it is considered cosmetic surgery only. You cannot bill mastectomy and mastopexy if performed on the same breast as mastopexy does not have any infected tissue/lesion but in mastectomy, a cancerous or benign lesion is removed. Either that breast has any lesion or not. Conclusion- Do not bill 19301-19307 with 19316 if performed on the same breast.
