Wiki Pulling Smoker Status from Social History?

I realize we typically do not code from Social History, but I am wondering if it is kosher when the provider lists HTN or another heart/cancer related dx so check the smoking status from the social history and code from that history? My ecoder is continuously asking if the pt is a smoker or has...

Wiki Proper use of 305.1 (Tobacco use disorder)

When would you use 305.1 aside from when its specifically stated the patient is a smoker? If a pt had conjunctivitis, or sinusitis and the Health FX were checked with smoker, would this be coded? What conditions could/should this be used with?
