Has anyone had success using CPT code S2900 in addition to lap hysterectomy codes to denote a robotic surgery? Our payers deny this code as GLOBAL. Is using the 22 modifier a more accurate way to charge for these surgeries?
I agree. A robotic surgery is not inherently more complex or additional work. The physician does not incur any additional expenses by using this equipment, only the facility does. Many practices use S2900 as simply a way of tracking statistics for robotic surgeries and is not expecting additional payment.
