To say it's been frustrating is an understatement. I passed my exam in July of last year and started applying for full time, part time and contract positions around October. I was trying to stay within my organization, but I keep getting passed up. I have worked as a front desk employee since 2021 and as an office manager for the same company since April 2024. I know my medical background is a little more limited, but I work with insurance all the time, medical records and billing. I have probably put over 50 applications out there and haven't even had 1 interview. I will not give up as I know the right job is out there but it is disheartening to be passed up constantly because of no experience with coding, or billing. My goal now is to even get something 10-15 hours a week that can just get me my foot in the door if anything.

I agree, it is very frustrating. I passed in February and I am looking, same scenario.

wow, i just signed a loan for over $3000 to get my cpc. one of my biggest misgivings is not being able to pay the loan back because i cannot find a job. the couselors sound so conveniencing, "oh, you will find a job, don't worry. coders are in high demand." but if you don't have experience, you don't get hired. i think i am going to try to get out of this mess i signed up for. wish me luck

Oh dear. I think if it's not AAPC, and you're able to "get out of" the loan contract, you might want to investigate no-cost options. There are community colleges and also an online educator (on the cover of the AAPC The Magazine in December 2024), if you go to her website and see Affiliates, a training program that and I believe, from watching her videos, has a remote externship. (being a bit vague so as to stay within guidelines).

Make sure your resumes highlight your school experience if you went to a school. In a school setting you would have 1 yr experience. Sometimes resumes come through and highlight previous jobs that are not coding related. Coding, datamining, billing etc all this is experience that should be shown.
That's an interesting point. We often discount the experience of school, internship, and externships.

I am so proud of you for furthering your career with a new certification. It is frustrating. When I started, I lucked out with a small family practice. You may want to check around your area.
You mentioned you worked at a medical office. Who do they use? If they are using a company, see if you can get a contact there.
