In this procedure, the provider inserts an endoscope through an incision in the skin over the kidney or the renal pelvis to analyze the kidney and ureter and may take a tissue sample of the kidney for biopsy. He may perform this procedure with irrigation or instillation of saline to better view the structures. He may also perform a ureteropyelography, or a radiological examination of the ureter and renal pelvis by injecting contrast. He also destroys any abnormal renal tissue through electric current or by incising the tissue.
