The provider examines the tissue inside the ankle joint with an arthroscope. She identifies and repairs a defect in the cartilage covering the bony surfaces of the talus, or ankle bone, and or the tibia, one of the bones of the lower leg. She excises the defect and drills holes in the underlying bony tissue to encourage growth of healthy tissue. The procedure relieves pain and improves mobility in the joint.
