In this procedure, the provider performs open treatment of an interphalangeal joint dislocation, which is abnormal separation of a joint. She may or may not use internal fixation implants like pins or screws to fix the dislocation. Phalanges are bones of the toe. There are three in each toe except the greater toe, which has two phalanges. An interphalangeal joint is a joint between two phalanges of a toe.
