In this procedure, the provider performs open treatment of a slipped femoral epiphysis by removing a wedge–shaped portion of bone from the neck of the femur to reduce the fracture in the growth plate, restoring the normal alignment of the epiphysis. Slipped femoral epiphysis is a condition encountered in growing children and characterized by the femoral head, or epiphysis, slipping off the femoral neck due to fracture of the growth plate, called the physis.
