In this procedure, the provider repairs a tear in a patient’s shoulder joint capsule and tightens the joint capsule in the case of hyperlaxity, an excessive movement in an abnormal plane of movement for the shoulder. He performs this procedure to treat conditions like a severe shoulder instability. He also performs a repair of a labrum tear in a procedure such as a Bankart procedure.
