Code 57120 Encompasses all Colpocleisis Procedures

Question: What codes should I report for Le Fort colpocleisis with high perineorrhaphy and cystoscopy?

Answer: You should report 57120 (Colpocleisis (Le Fort type)) for the Le Fort procedure. The cystoscopy and perineorrhaphy are bundled into 57120 and are not separately billable.

Don’t miss: If you look at the code descriptor, you will see “Le Fort” as an example of the type of procedure for which you would report this code. However, that does not mean that you can only use this code for that particular type of procedure. You can report 57120 for any type of colpocleisis.

Your provider will often perform a 57120 procedure for elderly patients with severe prolapse who are no longer sexually active but still have their uteruses. This surgery closes the vaginal canal so that intercourse is no longer possible. Also, providers will perform a total colpocleisis on patients who do not have a uterus but have complete vaginal vault prolapse.
