Reader Question:

Discover These Codes for Shave Incision

Question: The podiatrist performed a shave incision of 0.5 cm in diameter from the patient’s left foot. What CPT® code should we report for this procedure?

Pennsylvania Subscriber

Answer: You should report 11305 (Shaving of epidermal or dermal lesion, single lesion, scalp, neck, hands, feet, genitalia; lesion diameter 0.5 cm or less) in this case. You report this code when the provider shaves off a single epidermal or dermal lesion of 0.5 cm or less in diameter from the scalp, neck, hands, feet, or genitals.

Don’t miss: For the same procedure on a lesion with a diameter of 0.6 to 1.0 cm, you would report 11306 (… lesion diameter 0.6 to 1.0 cm). For a lesion with a diameter of 1.1 to 2.0 cm, you would report 11307 (… lesion diameter 1.1 to 2.0 cm). And for a lesion with a diameter over 2.0 cm, you would report 11308 (… lesion diameter over 2.0 cm).
