Question: Is there a CPT code for Reiki?

Answer: No, the AMA has not established a CPT code for Reiki, nor is it payable by Medicare by using the manual therapy (97140) or massage (97124) codes. Reiki is considered an alternative medicine procedure because it involves a practitioner using his hands to help the patient reconnect with his energy field. Some insurers offer reimbursement for various alternative and complementary medicine procedures, and if you encounter such a payer, ask them which CPT code they deem most appropriate for billing Reiki.
