Our June article "Be Specific When Coding for Myobloc" noted that Botox type B (also known by its trade name, Myobloc, J0587) injections were only covered by Medicare on a national basis for cervical dystonia (ICD-9 333.83 ) patients. Some Medicare carriers are now expanding that coverage to include other diagnoses In fact, TrailBlazer Health Enterprises, the Medicare Part B carrier for Delaware, Maryland, Texas, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., now covers Myobloc injections for the same diagnoses as Botox type A, including multiple sclerosis (340), infantile cerebral palsy (343.0-343.9) and many other conditions. As always, check with your carrier before billing this drug. Look for our full article update on Myobloc injections in next month's issue of Physical Medicine and Rehab Coding Alert.
