Pathology Quiz:

Test Your Myomectomy Coding Skills for Clean Claims

Pick correct procedure and diagnosis codes.

Trying your hand at a coding scenario can sometimes be the best way to learn — so here’s a chance to see if you can master myomectomy coding for your pathology practice.

Look over the following case, then assign the procedure and diagnosis code(s) you’d use if you were filing this claim.

Study the Myomectomy Case

The pathologist received two containers, one containing two fibroid masses from the cervix, and one containing a separate myoma from the uterine fundus.

After processing the fibroids from the cervix in cassettes 1-4, and the large fibroid from the fundus in cassettes 5-9, the pathologist microscopically examined multiple Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) stained slides from each mass.

The pathologist diagnosed the masses from the cervix as subserosal fibroids. The pathologist also indicated that the mass from the fundus was a pedunculated submucosal myoma.

Check your work: Once you’ve decided on the procedure and diagnosis code(s) that you think are appropriate for this case, you can turn to page 77 to see how you did.
