READER QUESTIONS:

Bill 94762 for the Equipment

Question: When an allergist performs 94762 on hospital inpatients, may I bill for the code?

California Subscriber

Answer: No. Code 94762 (Noninvasive ear or pulse oximetry for oxygen saturation; by continuous overnight monitoring [separate procedure]) does not include payment for any work the allergist completed. Code 94762 covers technical services only. So you may only bill the code if the allergist performs the service in an outpatient setting and is thus billing for the equipment. When 94762 is performed in the hospital, the hospital owns the equipment and bills for it.
