CMS removes one administrative obstacle to achieving compliance with 5-day deadline.
You should be able to achieve better NOE timeliness stats under a new procedure from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
New way: “When a Notice of Election (NOE) is submitted timely (within 5 days after a hospice admission), but the hospice provider determines the NOE contained a billing error, a new corrected NOE can be submitted immediately,” notes HHH Medicare Administrative Contractor CGS on its website.
Old way: “Hospices do not need to wait for the initial incorrect NOE to be Returned to the Provider (RTPd),” CGS instructs.
“Submitting a new, corrected NOE within the 5 days will reduce the risk of having an untimely NOE,” the MAC adds.
