CMS Issues Bidding Instructions To HHAs

Be aware of your area's bidding status. Don't expect competitive bidding to pass you by just because you're a home health agency. HHAs that furnish durable medical equipment won't be able to do so under the bidding program set to start Jan. 1, unless they are a winning contract bidder, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services says in July 30 CR 7410. That applies to the nine bid areas and the items subject to bidding. Bidding will apply to 91 areas in the following year. HHA claims with bid items on them will be returned by your home health intermediary. All bid items must be billed to the appropriate DME Medicare Administrative Contractor, CMS says in a related MLN Matters article.
