CMS To Pharmacies:

Don't Dump Accreditation Yet

The economic stimulus bill last year gave pharmacies until Jan. 1, 2011 to comply with Medicare's DME accreditation requirements. And after that, pharmacies that meet certain criteria still will be exempt from the rule. But pharmacies that are already accredited should hold off on withdrawing the accreditation, said CMS's Sandra Bastinelli in the most recent home care Open Door Forum. The National Supplier Clearinghouse will send pharmacies letters letting them know if they'll be exempt. "There is nothing to do right now," Bastinelli said.
