Industry Note:

Authorities Pound Medicaid Providers On Fraud

Authorities continue to pound Medicaid home care providers with the anti-fraud hammer.

In Virginia, a federal jury convicted an HHA office manager and administrator of fraud, says the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Virginia in a release. Yanick Pierre of First Call Home Health in Woodbridge, Va., submitted false claims to a Virginia Medicaid intermediary for home health services to Medicaid recipients when she knew the services were not provided, the jury found. The fraudulent billing resulted in a total loss of at least $979,000.

In Missouri, authorities have charged an owner of a personal care services agency with fraud. Jornel Williams, owner of Eagle Home Health Care Inc. in St. Louis, submitted claims for home care services that weren't actually provided, alleges Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster in a release. Williams fraudulently billed Medicaid for more than $23,000 for nurse visits during 2008, 2009, and 2010, prosecutors say.
