Get MIPS Reweighting for COVID-19 Hardship

Question: Our general surgery practice was strongly impacted by COVID-19, and we’d like to apply to reweight our MIPS performance categories. How and when should we do this?

Answer: You need to submit the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) Extreme and Uncontrollable Circumstances (EUC) application to reweight your MIPS performance categories

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has extended the deadline for MIPS-eligible “clinicians, groups, virtual groups, and Alternate Payment Model (APM) Entities to request reweighting of MIPS performance categories due to the COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE),” CMS says in a recent alert.>

CMS reiterates in the alert that only providers listing COVID-19 as a “triggering event” will be eligible for the extension. The new deadline for those impacted is March 3 at 8:00 pm EST.>
