Instructor:

Dawn Kemp Kantz

I have been an instructor at Lenoir Community College-Jones County since 2003 where I have taught GED, HRD Employability skills, basic computer skills, Office Systems Technology, Early Childhood Ed, and Lateral Entry Ed. Recently my duties for LCC included being the college liaison between LCC and Jones Senior High School, where I recruited, enrolled, and supported the dual enrollment high school students taking college classes. In the Fall 2011 semester, I was promoted to full-time faculty at the main campus in Kinston where I taught Office Admin/ Medical Office Admin curriculum classes.  In August 2017, I was promoted to Director of Continuing Education Special Programs, where I managed the HRD and WorkKeys programs and wrote grants for the college. In 2021, I was promoted to Associate Dean of Workforce Development where I managed the Apprenticeship and Customized Training programs at LCC. Finally, in February 2023, I was promoted to Associate Dean of the AAMC and Workforce Development, where the Aerospace & Advanced Manufacturing Center's degree programs were also added to my position.

My education includes a BS in Business Administration majoring in Accounting, from Youngstown State University in Ohio and from East Carolina University with a Master's Degree in Adult Education and a graduate certificate in Distance Learning and Administration. I passed the AAPC's Certified Professional Coder exam in December 2012 and currently hold the CPC, CPPM and CPC-I certifications. I am single and have two sons, Patrick, who is in the Navy, and Chris, who is in the Marine Corps. I am also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and spend my “spare” time fishing and coaching at Jones Senior High School where I coach football and girls' track.
