Gastroenterology Coder (CGIC™) Preparation Training Course

Gastroenterology is the study of the normal function and diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon and rectum, pancreas, gallbladder, bile ducts, and liver. Gastroenterologists see patients for a wide range of ailments from heartburn to colon cancer. According to a 2005 report, 185 million individuals in the United States are affected by GI disease yearly. As the field of Gastroenterology is expected to grow, now is a great time to become a Certified Gastroenterology Coder (CGIC).

The Gastroenterology Coding Course will prepare you for the CGIC certification exam. While no other credential is needed to attain the GCIC credential, this online course is recommended for those who have at least two years of experience in gastroenterology coding. You will review the common diagnoses, surgical procedures, and evaluation management coding specific to gastroenterology — and gain the knowledge and experience to prepare you for the exam.

Training Objectives

  • Review common general surgery diagnosis codes and conditions.
  • Review CPT® and CMS E/M guidelines.
  • Common procedures performed in gastroenterology.
  • Discuss the most missed concepts on the CGIC certification exam.
  • Practice test that mimics the format and structure of the CGIC certification exam.

Training Content

  • Interactive lectures with exercises.
  • Practice test with operative cases totaling 35 multiple choice questions.

Additional Information

  • Prerequisites: At least two years of experience in gastroenterology coding. Not meant for individuals with little, limited, or no coding experience.
  • Time requirement: 4 hours.
  • Approved for 4 CEUs upon successful completion of the course. Valid towards CPC®, CPB, CPMA®, CPPM®, and specialty credentials except CIRCC® (one-time use only).
  • Training Availability: Access available for one (1) year from purchase date.

Computer Requirements:

High-speed Internet connection and Adobe Acrobat Reader.

AAPC certified members must successfully complete the training within the allotted time frame of one year or less with a score of 70% or higher on the practice test.
