Pt comes to office and has a Positive Pregnancy Test.
A TransVaginal Ultrasound is done, and No Introuterine Sac is seen on Ultrasound.
The Patient has a Tubal Ectopic Pregnancy.

Physcian office wants to know should they charge the
76817 For Pregnant Ultrasound OR
76830 for Ultrasound non Pregnant

Any insite would be helpfull here.

Thanks!

Documented as 'Tubal Pregnancy'. Ectopic or intra uterine or concomittent , pregnancy is pregnancy.
I would like to code 76817 for sure.
and supported with diagosis code 633.10
Thank you

You be on your stand and substanciate your point with their documentation.
Physicians because of theoretical point of view, may include ectopic as Ob or Gyn because both text books include ectopic as one in them.
But if thye were not sure of the ectopic there and no sign of pregnancy any where, it can go to gyne US.

As for me even if the HCG titer is on the discriminatary zone, I would code this US under Ob, transvaginal.
Thank you.
Let us see if any one comes with more better answer and with their Billing experiences
