Wiki Placenta screening after delivery

After delivery the mom is discharged but baby due to illness is sent to another acute care facility and the neonatologist requests placenta specimen, how should this be coded? Also, should the specimen be billed under mom since the specimen is really technically from the mom?

The placenta is the mother's tissue, not the newborn's. Dx coding should refer to complications of the pregnancy/delivery as they relate to the mother's condition affecting the newborn, not the newborn's dx. The bill goes under the mother's patient ID.
