Hi Everyone:

One of our pediatricians is requesting a dietary consult for a 14 year old patient who is fed partially from a G-Tube. The parents have a commercial insurance and opted out of nutritional services coverage. The hospital that owns this clinic has a dietician who is willing to come over and do an assessment on this child and make recommendations, but as she is not covered are we able to have her time billed under the pediatrician? The patient will be seen by the peds doc, but she is wanting to know if we can bill as part of her office visit? And if so, does she need to be present during the entire time the dietician is assessing this child?

I'm thinking that we can't really bill for the dietician's time under the peds doc regardless of whether she sees the patient during the same visit ... but I would like your feedback on this. The child is quite underweight ... not that this changes anything ...

Thank you for whatever guidance you can give me.
