I am a HCC Coding Auditor for a large Medical Group. My concern is as follows: All depts in the company except for the building where I am are under locked doors. I work in a office that has the marketing team. This team of workers has volunteers in daily to help stuff folders ect. I have my desk in an open area where the medical records are visible on my desk. The markeing team has set up card tables next to my desk and seated volunteers right next to me where the files on my desk and the files open on my computer screen are visible. This to me is a major HIPAA violation. I have requested a more secure situation. Is my CPC certificate in any danger if HIPPA comes in and fines us? I would apreciate any advice.
