My office runs some in-house labs for thyroid and hormone tests. Some of the samples are drawn, frozen, and ran a few days later. The question I'm coming across is if we are supposed to bill the labs under the date that the blood was drawn/collected or the date the test was ran? We do bill for a venipuncture (36415) as well, which I know would need to be billed under the date it was done...but unsure if it matters for the labs...

The collection date is the date of service unless it was collected greater than 30 days in the past. Then it is an archived specimen, and the date of service is the date the test was performed.
