Good morning! I am looking for billing/coding guidance for CPT code 90833. Our primary care doctor is billing for an office visit E/M and also wants to bill add on code 90833 for psychotherapy. Wisconsin Medicaid is denying for invalid modifier attached. Based on my research, the modifiers that Medicaid requires limits the billing to licensed mental health providers. Yet there are other resources that state a PCP can bill for both the office E/M and 90833. I am so confused. My question then is two-fold. First, can a primary care provider bill for a 90833 psychotherapy? Second, what modifier do I append to the 90833? Thank you for any help you can provide!
