The provider applies controlled subatmospheric pressure around a wound through a sealed dressing to remove fluids and infectious materials and to aid in healing of wounds that have a total surface area of more than 50 cm2. Providers may use this procedure to hasten the healing of decubitus ulcers, or pressure sores, as well as other slow healing or nonhealing wounds.
