The provider inserts a catheter through the skin (percutaneous approach) and guides it into the heart?s arteries. They use atherectomy, which is removal of plaque from the artery wall, followed by placement of one or more stents (small tubes) to hold the artery open, and may also expand a balloon in the vessel to improve blood flow. This code applies to treatment in a single major coronary artery and/or one or more of its branches.
