The lab analyst performs the technical lab test using a tumor tissue or blood specimen from a cancer patient to evaluate the patient’s entire genetic makeup, called the genome, for variation in the number of copies of gene sequences, called copy number variants (CNV), and other chromosomal markers of abnormalities, such as long sequences of homozygous DNA, called loss of heterozygosity (LOH).
