A kidney scan is a nuclear medicine test that is used to evaluate the structure and function of the kidneys as well as blood flow to the kidneys.
There are two types of kidney scans that can be performed:
1. Cortical scan: Used to ascertain the shape of the kidneys.
2. Functional scan: Used to obtain a measurement of the amount of time it takes for the radionuclide to go through the kidney, collect in the urine, and drain into the bladder.
