The provider takes X–rays of the colon after infusing double–contrast high–density barium and air through the rectum into the colon. The service also includes a scout film and delay image taken before the contrast is instilled, if performed, and abdominal X–ray exposures after instillation of the contrast. Glucagon, if administered, is usually given by IV infusion prior to the procedure.
