The provider creates a fistula, or tract, between the conjunctiva and the nose and places a tube in the tract to keep it open. He performs this procedure to treat excessive tearing that results from complete blockage of the punctum and the canaliculi, or tear ducts, by a fleshy growth in the corner of the eye.
