In this procedure, the provider removes or closes off a tangle of arteries and veins that have abnormal communications between them. This condition, known as a neurological arteriovenous malformation, or AVM, is located within, on, or near the spinal cord in the cervical spine. This procedure is done to isolate and eradicate the fistula and draining veins to resolve functional abnormalities such as lower extremity weakness and prevent the progression of the condition.
