In this add on procedure, the provider removes part of or an entire thoracic or lumbar vertebral bone and intervertebral disc material from another vertebra during an initial procedure called a corpectomy. In this procedure, a lateral extracavitary, or LECA, approach is made to another lumbar vertebra to relieve pressure on the spinal cord and spinal nerves. This approach also allows for the stabilization of the spine at the same time. The service is usually done as a result of a fracture, tumor, or deformity.
