The provider accesses the posterior cranial fossa, jugular foramen, or midline skull base using a far lateral transcondylar approach. If needed, the surgeon also removes a portion of the occipital condyle, the mastoid bone, and part of the C1 to C3 vertebrae and/or decompresses the vertebral artery and moves it, if necessary, to access the cerebellum. The selection of a particular approach will depend on the location and size of the lesion. Report other surgeries, repairs or reconstructions separately.
