The provider accesses the anterior cranial fossa using a craniofacial approach to expose an extradural (outside the dura) lesion or defect at the base of the skull. A unilateral or bilateral craniotomy, elevation of the frontal lobe, and osteotomy of the base of the anterior cranial fossa are included in this approach procedure. The selection of a particular approach depends on the location and size of the lesion.
