In this procedure, the provider inserts a catheter through the urethra and injects contrast material into the urethra. The provider then follows the flow of the urine backward to the bladder for urethrocystography, an X–ray examination of the urethra and bladder using contrast medium. He performs this examination to identify and diagnose abnormalities in the bladder and or lower urinary tract.
