In this procedure the provider pulls a small loop of the large intestine, either from the colon or cecum, to an incision in the abdominal wall, incises the intestinal segment, and stitches it to the abdominal wall. He does this to provide direct access to the intestines, typically for emptying them. He also collects multiple biopsy samples along the length of the intestine.
