The provider repairs a defect, such as an aneurysm, in the aortic arch with a synthetic graft with the patient under intermittent cardiopulmonary bypass or deep hypothermic circulatory arrest while isolating the circulation to the brain from the systemic circulation. The arch vessels are individually reimplanted in the aortic arch graft or reimplanted as a two–vessel or three–vessel island, also called a 2– or 3–vessel Carrel patch graft.
