The provider obliterates, or corrects, an aortopulmonary defect in a patient by fixing a pericardial or synthetic patch to the area. The provider performs this procedure in a patient with an anomaly of the heart in which there is an abnormal communication between the ascending aorta and the pulmonary artery that has been present from birth.
