In this procedure, the provider surgically repairs a cardiac defect present from birth, in which the aorta arises from the right ventricle and the pulmonary artery arises from the left ventricle. The patient also has a ventricular septal defect that he must enlarge the hole in septum during the procedure and use a graft to connect the left ventricle to the aorta through this hole. In this procedure the provider must also repair a narrowing of the pulmonary artery, a blood vessel that carries deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle to the lungs for purification.
