The provider performs a closed reduction of the distal femoral epiphyseal separation with manipulation; skin or skeletal traction may be employed. The goal of the procedure is to stabilize and reduce the separation between the epiphysis, the lower end part of the femur (thigh bone). Separation or fracture of the epiphyseal plate (growth plate) is a common, often missed injury in young children.
